Cancer pain is pain associated with a cancer process, but not all cancer pain is the same.

Effective treatment of cancer-related pain requires identification of the specific type or types of pain a person is experiencing. This can be nerve pain, bone pain, organ pain, myofascial pain, etc. Medications are often of benefit here, however, medications must be selectively prescribed for specific types of pain. There is not one category of medication that fits all cancer pain processes. Each type of pain requires specific management. As anesthesiology pain practitioners we are highly experienced in incorporating, managing and monitoring high dose narcotic medications in many forms, including intravenous narcotics at home, when these are necessary.
